On the second night of the 2024 U.S. Olympic Track and Field Team Trials, Sha'Carri Richardson and Ryan Crouser secured their spots for Paris. Both athletes are officially headed to the Olympic Games.
The evening's events at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, included finals in the women's 100m, men's shot put, women's triple jump, and men's decathlon.
Sha'Carri Richardson is set for her first Olympics after winning the women's 100m with a world-leading time of 10.71 seconds. Her training partners, Melissa Jefferson and Twanisha Terry, finished second and third, joining her on the Olympic team.
In the men's shot put, Ryan Crouser overcame a challenging, injury-plagued spring to win the final, edging out Joe Kovacs and Payton Otterdahl. All three will represent the U.S. in Paris.
The decathlon saw 23-year-old Heath Baldwin stun the field, winning with 8,625 points and securing his Olympic spot alongside Zach Ziemek, who becomes only the second U.S. man to make three Olympic decathlon teams, and Harrison Williams.
Jasmine Moore clinched her second Olympic team spot by winning the women's triple jump, joined by Keturah Orji and Tori Franklin.
In the men's 100m heats, Noah Lyles, Fred Kerley, and Christian Coleman all advanced to the semifinals. Yared Nuguse in the men's 1500m, and Kaylyn Brown and Shamier Little in the women's 400m, also secured spots in their respective semifinals.
**Women's 100m:**
Sha'Carri Richardson won the women's 100m final with a time of 10.71 seconds, the fastest in the world for 2024. Melissa Jefferson (10.80) and Twanisha Terry (10.89) joined her on the Olympic team.
**Men's 100m:**
In the men's 100m heats, Noah Lyles led with a time of 9.92 seconds. Christian Coleman (9.99) and Kenny Bednarek (10.00) also advanced to the semifinals, along with Fred Kerley and a strong field of competitors.
**Men's Shot Put:**
Ryan Crouser won the men's shot put final with a throw of 22.84m, securing his spot for a third consecutive Olympic gold attempt. Joe Kovacs and Payton Otterdahl also made the Olympic team.
**Men's 1500m:**
Yared Nuguse clocked the fastest time of 3:34.09 in the men's 1500m semifinals. He, along with Hobbs Kessler and Henry Wynne, advanced to the final.
**Women's 400m:**
Kaylyn Brown (49.71), Kendall Ellis (49.81), and Aaliyah Butler (50.01) were the fastest in the women's 400m semifinals. They will be joined in the final by Shamier Little and Alexis Holmes.
