Adele has announced plans to take a hiatus from music following her upcoming concert residency in Munich.
Speaking to German broadcaster ZDF, the British singer shared, “My tank is quite empty from being on stage every weekend in Las Vegas. I don’t have any plans for new music at all. I want a big break after this and I think I want to do other creative things just for a little while.”
Adele has been performing her "Weekends With Adele" concert residency at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas since November 2022, set to conclude on November 23. Before the final shows in Vegas, she will spend the summer in Munich, performing two concerts a week for five weeks in a purpose-built stadium.
Marek Lieberberg, the promoter of the Munich residency, stated that 95% of the tickets have been sold. The stage setup will feature the largest screen ever used for a concert, measuring 220 meters long and 30 meters tall. Adele commented, “The screen is enormous… [it will] make 80,000 people feel like it’s just me and one of them.”
The concert site spans 400,000 square meters and includes a 13,000-seat “Adele World” food hall, complete with an English-style pub.
Adele noted that she expects a different atmosphere from European fans, saying, “European fans are a bit quieter, so maybe that’s because they’re more polite, whereas Americans can be very, very loud.”
"Weekends With Adele" has received critical acclaim, with many moments from her shows going viral due to her candid and empathetic interactions with fans.
Currently staying in Germany before the Munich residency, Adele attended the Euro 2024 championship, where she made headlines again by telling the Dutch crowd to “shut up” before Harry Kane’s successful penalty kick during England’s semi-final against the Netherlands.
Adele’s most recent album, "30," was released in November 2021. It topped the UK and US charts, becoming the biggest-selling album of the year in the US after just one day on sale. The lead single "Easy on Me" also reached No. 1 in both countries.
